Welcome Fall Semester Freshmen!

The Fall Semester FASET Orientation program for freshmen and their parents/guests is a full two-day program designed to orient both student and guest to the Georgia Tech community. Sessions are offered throughout July and August. Students stay on campus in a residence hall on the night of FASET, parents and guests can arrange accommodations in local hotels offering special rates to FASET participants.

Information for Fall Semester 2009 Freshmen will be available in early spring. Information booklets will be mailed to deposited students in early May. On-line reservations will begin Wednesday, May 20th at 9 a.m. (EST).

The dates for Fall FASET 2009 are:

FASET 1: Tuesday, July 7 – Wednesday, July 8

FASET 2: Sunday, July 12 – Monday, July 13 (Date Change)

FASET 3: Sunday, July 19 – Monday, July 20

FASET 4: Sunday, August 2 – Monday, August 3

FASET 5: Wednesday, August 12 – Thursday, August 13

There is no advantage to attending one session over another. All students at each session have an equal chance of getting classes during course registration.

There are no wait lists for FASET Sessions. Students wishing to come to FASET 5, but live closer than 500 miles, can change to FASET 5 (on a space available basis) starting July 1st at 9 a.m.

Please note that this session is only for accepted Freshmen who are starting school at Georgia Tech in the fall of 2009. If you are starting school in the summer of 2009 click here.

IMPORTANT!
Medical Records - Finalized Health Information Records must be received and confirmed as received by the Student Health Center prior to your attendance at a FASET session, and are required before a student can register. If you have not already done so, please return your completed Health Information Record immediately. For more information, call the Student Health Services at (404) 894-1420.

Timeline:

  • FASET Orientation publication mailed, mid-May

  • Online FASET Orientation Reservations, mid-May

  • FASET Orientation Reservations Deadline, June 30th

  • Residence Hall Room Assignments will be available on-line in early July at www.housing.gatech.edu

  • R.A.T.S. Week (Welcome Week) Activities first week of classes, August 14-23

  • Freshman Convocation (for students and parents), Sunday, August 16

Cost

The cost for Fall semester orientation for students is $160. This includes includes all FASET materials, overnight housing in the residence halls, Day 1 lunch & dinner, Day 2 Breakfast, Freshman T-Shirt, R.A.T.S. Week and Welcome Home Month activities, including Convocation and R.A.T.S. Cap.  An additional night of housing is available for students the night prior to orientation at the cost of $60 per night.

Guests are an additional $85 per person.   This includes all FASET materials, Parent Handbook, Parent Calendar, Day 1 lunch & dinner and Day 2 breakfast. 

Please note that the HOPE scholarship and other scholarships do not cover the cost of the orientation fee.

Cancellations

All cancellations must be made in writing at least ten (10) business days in advance for refund of the registration fee less a $25 administration fee. To request a refund, e-mail faset@vpss.gatech.edu.

Lodging and Hotel Information

On-Campus Housing During FASET

Fall Freshmen attending sessions 1-4 will stay in on-campus housing. Lodging the night of the session is included in the student registration fee. Housing is available the night prior to orientation at an additional charge. Housing is not available for the nights following FASET sessions.

Students attending FASET session 5 will be able to move into their residence hall assignment for Fall semester prior to FASET Orientation on Tuesday, August 11.  For more information regarding the housing move-in process, visit www.housing.gatech.edu.  Students without fall housing assignments will not be housed on campus and are responsible for making arrangements at local hotels.

Fall Freshman FASET Student Schedule

Our two-day freshmen orientation schedule allows new students numerous opportunities to learn how to be a successful Yellow Jacket in and out of the classroom. Plan to begin orientation at 8 a.m. on Day 1; continue into the evening and nighttime Day 1 programming; stay in Towers/Glenn Residence Halls the night of Day 1 and continue and stay until 6 p.m. on Day 2 for academic advising, course registration and additional presentations. Do not make plans on Day 2 which will prevent you from staying until 6 p.m. (as course registration may run until 6 p.m.). Please select a session which will allow you to dedicate two days for your orientation experience.

Our two-day family schedule allows for more interaction between freshmen and their family members and guests; and additional information on how family members and guests can support their freshmen in being a successful Yellow Jacket in and out of the classroom. Plan to begin orientation at 8 a.m. on Day 1, continue into the early evening on Day 1 and stay until 6 p.m. on Day 2 for academic advising; a variety of tours, and additional meetings and presentations designed specifically for parents. Do not make plans on Day 2 which will prevent you from staying until 6 p.m. (as course registration may run until 6 p.m.).   Please select a session which will allow you to dedicate two days for you and your student's orientation experience.

What to Bring

What Should I Bring to Orientation?

  • All correspondence from Georgia Tech, along with your copy of any AP Credit information or previous college transcripts (official and unofficial)

  • A copy of all Medical Entrance Form (www.health.gatech.edu)
    *This form must be submitted prior to FASET in order to register for courses during FASET

  • Watch

  • Casual clothes, preferably layers, as the program will take place both within air conditioning and outside

  • Comfortable walking shoes (You will be walking around the campus)

  • Umbrella

  • Personal toiletries

  • Notebook and pen or pencil

What Should I NOT Bring to Orientation?

  • Large amounts of cash and other valuable items

  • Alcohol/Drugs regardless of age. Possession or consumption will result in disciplinary action through the Office of the Dean of Students

Parent and Guest Orientation

About Parent and Guest FASET Orientation

Parent and Guest Orientation runs separately from the student program, focusing on a variety of topics of interest to parents of new students. Throughout the program, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Attend presentations on academic success, financial matters, housing, parking, campus safety, and much more

  • Participate in a campus resource fair

  • Meet with other parents of first-year students attending FASET

  • Attend break-out sessions designed for your individual needs

  • Meet with key campus administrators during our Parents Program reception

  • Attend with your student their departmental orientation/academic advising

While attending FASET is not required, it is a great way for parents and other guests to learn ways to support your student through their various experiences they will encounter at Tech. The FASET Office strongly believes that family participation during your student's transition to college is invaluable, and we hope you will choose to attend FASET.
